Over 50 years ago, Jean Replinger, proposed that Outward Bound courses be available for girls. Voyageur Outward Bound School is proud to be the first Outward Bound school in the United States to make that proposal a reality.
According to our evaluation methods (conducted by the University of MN's Center for Applied Research in Education Improvement) after course, our female students report higher growth than male students in emotional management, responsibility, empathy, initiative and service.
In honor of programming for girls and in honor of Jean Replinger making Outward Bound history, we’re launching a new scholarship program in her name to get more girls on course in the future and we need your help!
At VOBS, we are committed to providing equal access to our programs. Please consider making a donation today to the Jean Replinger Scholarship Fund and give the gift of challenge and discovery to future female and non-binary leaders.

We all have a responsibility to our community. Jean carried us forward, with one segment of our population and we deserve to try to make Outward Bound available for all. I think this is something that we all hold in our hearts. It is very much our intent to continue Jean’s good work and try to expand that out to even more people.

Coming here is my restart, and if I didn't come here I would have never found the Gabriella who I want the world to see.
~ Gabriella, age 16, Intercept Scholarship Student
I wanted to participate in an Outward Bound course because I needed to find motivation in my life and find my voice. I am happy to say that I found that and much more.
~ Mirina, age 17, Pathfinder Boundary Waters Canoeing & Backpacking
This trip moved me - the instructors, the rest of my group, being immersed in nature, pushing myself physically and mentally. Thank you for the opportunity to take a step back, shift my focus, and reassess before I move on to the next phase of my life.
~ Ann, Adult Veterans Dogsledding
