Homeplace

Our wilderness base, affectionately referred to by staff as “Homeplace,” feels like just that: a comfortable, pleasant place where one would like to live.

While walking around the base, one quickly senses a vibrant culture and history that provides the foundation for the base.

Since 1963, Homeplace has run summer expeditions for diverse populations including women’s only courses, veterans, adults, teens, adventure seekers, and at-risk youth who seek the wilderness in order to cultivate their own excellence.

In 1970, Homeplace began to run winter expeditions on cross country skis. In 1982 sleds were built and sled dogs took to the trail with VOBS instructors and students.

Today, Homeplace prides itself on the same principles and values that Outward Bound founder and educator Kurt Hahn espoused —a commitment to serving all students and a dedication to character development through the unique lens of the wilderness.
